We provide detailed information about the products we use so you can make a well informed choice about the materials in your home. Using recycled and reclaimed materials is one of our passions and the creative re-use of materials provides unique results.
At a minimum we use timber from certified sustainable sources, such as Australian Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) and Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) certified timbers. Sustainable forest management and harvest practices ensure forest viability and biodiversity long term. Low formaldehyde plywood, MDF, and melamine products are used when required or requested.
In addition to timber we have experience with a range of natural building techniques including straw, mud brick and cob. Natural materials have the advantage of low embodied energy, high reusability and are easily recycled. We can suggest a range of recycled and natural material options during the construction process.
Despite its high embodied energy, steel has the ability to be reused in its original state or recycled into new products at the end of its life span, making it a sustainable choice for building. The high strength to weight ratio of steel means that it reduces the volume of material needed in construction.
Adhesives, Paints and Finishes
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) are found in most common adhesives, paints and finishes. VOC are carbon containing compounds that form part of the solvents used in these products. A number of VOC are known to be harmful to human health. We use low VOC products, protecting our and your health during application and ensuring a healthy environment for the life of your home.
